Also known as the Dock Mosque or Alice Street Mosque, the South Wales Islamic Centre is a purpose-built mosque completed in the mid-1980s by primarily Yemeni immigrants. The nearby Yemeni Community Centre was completed in 1994. Shaikh Said Hassan Ismail, the present imam of the mosque was born of a Welsh mother and a Yemeni father. Cardiff is the location of the earliest recorded mosque in the UK, built around 1860.
