Vilamendhoo Island Mosque

The Masjid is in the staff village of the Island, but guests may also use the facility and the staff are very friendly and welcoming to all cultures. The Grand Friday mosque is the biggest mosque in the Maldives. Situated in Male, it was constructed by the Sultan Ibrahim Iskandhar in 1656 and is of great architectural importance. It contains superb coral engravings and intricate artworks?detailing that stands in dramatic contrast to the size of this huge mosque, which can accommodate nearly 5000 people. The Grand Friday Mosque also accommodates the famous Islamic centre.
