Horn of Africa began in 1994 as a booth at downtown Portland's Saturday Market. After garnering rave reviews from press and patrons, the restaurant opened soon thereafter. Both Mohamed and Khalida have returned to their native Africa to master the flavors of the dishes made by their friends, family and neighbors. These are the recipes that several generations would work together on for a special event. In their traditional settings, just one of the dishes served at Horn of Africa could be an all-day affair. Open Tues-Fri, 11am-9pm; Sat-Sun, 5pm-9pm.
